How to Convert Pixels to Ft Formula Explained

If you want to convert pixel values into feets manually, you can use the Formula below. But before doing so, you must understand how this Formula is derived.

Firstly, let’s break the bridge between pixels and feet so that we can get our desired Formula.

Pixels have a relation with inch, and inch has a relation with feet.

So, let’s derive it:

As you know,

96 Pixels = 1 Inch

And,

1 foot = 12 inches

So,

If PPI pixels = 1 inch, then  1 pixel = 1 / PPI inches.

Thus, Inches = Pixels / PPI

So, if 12 inches = 1 foot, then 1 inch = 1 / 12 feet.

To convert inches to feet, we divide the number of inches by 12:

Feet = Inches / 12

So by combining above two equations, it will become:

Feet = (Pixels / PPI) / 12

Feet = Pixels / (PPI * 12)

Example Calculation:

Let’s convert 860 pixels to ft, assuming a PPI of 96 (standard web default).

Using the PX to Feet formula:

Feet = 860px / (96 PPI * 12)

Feet = 860 / (1152)

Feet ≈ 0.74652 feet

So, 860 pixels is approximately equal to 0.74652 feet when using 96 PPI.

Difference Between Pixels & Feets

Pixels are measurement units that are primarily used in the digital world. On the other hand, feet are those measurement units that are used in the physical world. Pixels are the units to measure image width and height. At the same time, feet are used to measure the width, height, and distance of tangible objects.

Pixels are used exclusively in digital design and development. On the other hand, feet are used to measure physical objects, distances, and areas of many architectural works. Thus, these two units of measurement differ greatly in their uses.
